Friday Focus: Marketing Trends

We get it…marketing trends can be hard to keep up with, especially if it isn’t your area of expertise. But hey, electricians, hairstylists, and plumbers all need marketing to be successful. We decided to give you a little 2018 update on some marketing trends to keep you in the loop. Whether you do your own marketing, or you hired someone to do it, it is still good to know what is going on.

Twitter Who?

Is Twitter a thing of the past for companies trying to reach customers? They were unable to grow their numbers in 2017 while other platforms like LinkedIn and Instagram were able to grow significantly. Since Twitter has not made very many improvements to their ad platforms they are falling behind.

Most companies are finding more success on Facebook and Instagram than Twitter. Twitter is not completely dead, but it isn’t the best option. If you are only going to choose two platforms to focus on Instagram should definitely be one.

Influencer Marketing

Influencer marketing is something that every company should look into. It is where you pay an influencer to review/post about your products. It is continuing to grow in 2018. It is a great way to connect with people on social media. Finding influencers on social media platforms that already have followers in your target market can save you a lot of time.

Since consumers, especially younger ones prefer content that is less staged, influencer marketing is effective. YouTube & Instagram are popular platforms for influencer marketing.

Example: @summerwind41490 on Instagram already has a lot of followers that like things that she likes. @barringtongifts noticed that she likes their stuff so they paid her to talk about their products and give them more exposure to her followers.

LinkedIn Is Blooming

LinkedIn is typically known as a place for job postings and resumes. Now, it is branching out and becoming a place for credible content to be posted. You should take advantage of this platform if it is relevant to you or your company.

Tell Your Story

Being unique and giving your customers a behind the scenes look at your company is becoming extremely popular. People are bombarded with advertisements these days so make sure yours are meaningful and make them feel included. Consumers want to be in the know and see what is going on behind the scenes. Transparency is also becoming big.

Instagram recently came out with “IGTV” which is a platform built into the Instagram app that allows for videos up to an hour long. Instagram’s story feature became more popular than Snapchats in just a year. Who knows maybe IGTV will become more popular than YouTube. Only time will tell.

Trends are not always right but for the most part they usually are. Do you stay up to date with marketing trends?
